Cecil M. Lucas, 77, of Stuarts Draft, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at his home. He was born on October 2, 1939, in Augusta County. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lora; his wives, Phyllis and Betty; two children, Judy and Boody; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Neil Lucas, Keith Lucas, Angel Thompson, Chad Lucas and Tanya Schlabach; two stepsons, Mike Humphreys and Marty Humphreys; two sisters, Martha Campbell and Thelma Kislek; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, conducted the Rev. Dennis Bradley. Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center.He was born April 11, 1925, in Galax, Va., son of the late Victor A. Branscome and Ella Banks Branscome.Wayne graduated from Hillsville High School and attended Greenbrier Military Academy. He was a veteran of World War II, enlisting in the U.S. Air Force at age 17, and stationed in Norwich, England, with the 467 Bomber Group. After graduating from Virginia Tech, he spent his career with DuPont as an accountant. He was a proud “Hokie,” enjoying going to football games with longtime friends every fall.He and his wife Ruby Arnold lived in Grifton, N.C., until her death in 1991. In 1994, he married Marjorie Ellington McKeown. He and Marjorie spent many happy years in Wilmington, traveling, going to ballgames and visiting family and friends. They were members of Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church.In addition to his wife Marjorie, he is survived by three daughters, Debbie Jones, and her husband, Steve, of Winnetka, Ill., Susan Kyman, and her husband, Alan, of St. Louis, Mo., and Linda Branscome, and her husband, Mark Marotto, of Chicago, Ill.; three stepchildren, Maclyn Slack, and her husband, Richard, Daniel McKeown, and his wife, Nora, and Julia McKeown, all of Wilmington; and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, at the McDow Funeral Home Chapel, 1701 Main St., Waynesboro, Va., with the Rev. Nancy Vaughan officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion.
